University Rd. Apartments
Venacular Scale Development.
The existing church hall was not a listed building and was earmarked for development by the church to finance the move to new purpose built premises. The design of the new apartment accommodation was governed by a number of factors. A sloping site, parking provision, the adjacent listed church building and the University area became a conservation area. Hobart & Herons proposals to maximise the development potential of the site were restricted in building height terms because of the adjacent church building, and in terms of architectural style, it had to tie in with the character and form of existing residential buildings on the street.
