Campbell College
Middle School
New Art dept, & General Classrooms
The former Parade Ground at the College has been transformed with the addition of the new Middle School. It provides accommodation for the Art department and General teaching Classrooms. The new 2-storey building rests comfortably in this location. Its design in terms of built form and scale sits in harmony with the listed College buildings behind it. A new courtyard was also formed, giving options for a future external landscaped activity area. The interior of the building is flooded with natural daylight, from a double height glazed wall at the entrance area, a central glazed spine roof light over the entrance, and large numbers of windows in Classrooms. The orientation of the building southwards contributes to the amount of natural light entering the building at all times of the day, particularly in the art classrooms. The muted colours selected for walls and floors in the teaching spaces, coupled with views out over the mature parkland of the College, contribute to the overall ambience of the teaching environment. A multipurpose sports hall, Class changing rooms and locker space are also included in the building.
